Hello reader At this time of year, there's nothing quite like a slice of hot toasted fruit bread spread with butter to cheer you up on a gloomy afternoon. Or is that just me? To this end, I have for you this week a wholemeal loaf lightly sweetened with honey and studded with fruity prunes and crunchy walnuts. Needless to say it's delicious. But it's also quite easy to make, even if you've never made bread before. If prunes aren't your thing, you can swap them for raisins or dried apricots. However, prunes are really good for you and if you're not a big fan, this bread is a good way to get some into your diet without feeling overwhelmed. I make bread on a regular basis, but I mostly stick to my rye sourdough loaf, so I'm always pleased when I ring the changes. So is CT. It's half term here in the New Forest, so as I'm not having to go into work, I'm off on a jaunt today. We've just discovered that there's a vegan cafe not too far from us and it has really good reviews. It's been open over a year, so I'm a bit cross it's taken me so long to find out about it. Anyway, today we're going there for lunch to see what the fuss is about. Fingers crossed. My orange spiced pumpkin cake is popular this week. I guess it has something to do with the looming All Hallows Eve. Do you celebrate Halloween? Bonfire Night is more my thing. We tend to draw the curtains and hunker down hoping to dissuade the trick or treaters. With a nice slice of buttered fruit loaf of course. I especially appreciate questions or feedback via comments on the blog posts. Keep cooking and stay safe. Choclette x
