Expand Your Stovetop for Under $100 |
This time of year, a few weeks out from Thanksgiving, is when I start to become aware of some of the limitations of my kitchen. It just isn't big enough to cook everything at the same time. And my problem is a common one. It's why we have no shortage of articles on Epicurious that list dishes to prepare ahead of time or suggest making a cooking timeline that begins the Sunday before. It's just hard to get everything on the stove or in the oven, especially when you need to cook at different temperatures. But there are ways to expand the footprint of your cooking space without knocking down walls. You can get a countertop oven, but I'll level with you: If you're freaked out about hosting Thanksgiving because you have a small kitchen, it may hard to find a place for one. I keep mine in the basement and plan to going up and down a lot of stairs while prepping veggie sides this year. But, an extra induction burner is much easier to deal with and immediately gives you 20% more stovetop. We've worked with a lot of them in our product testing and they're easy to use, easy to store, and while they can be expensive, they certainly don't have to be. So if you need an extra spot to simmer gravy or parboil potatoes check out the best ones we've tried below (we're dropping in our favorite sous vide circulator too, which will also let you take your cooking away from the stovetop). And if you'd like more info on why we love portable induction burners, click to read the full review. |
