| Galeffi is the perfect way to end an indulgent meal.
Forget Champagne, Toast With This Effervescent Italian Antacid Just about everybody I know has a stomach issue, and the reason escapes me. Are the consequences of existential dread adversely impacting the gut-brain axis? Or have we just become more comfortable as a society discussing our own bodily dysfunctions? Whatever the reason, digestive strife seems to be about as common a gripe among young people as student debt, and I am no exception (to either). As such, I've been a regular devotee to the chewable antacid tablet—until I got my hands on a jar of Galeffi Effervescente.
This Italian antacid comes in the form of lemon-flavored granules of sodium bicarbonate. Sprinkle a spoonful into a glass of water and the granules will tinkle and fizz away, creating a delicately carbonated alkaline solution that'll calm a roiling stomach. There isn't so much a lemon flavor as there is a faint suggestion of one—if you drank a plain glass of water and imagined a lemon orchard in Capri, you'd probably get a similar effect. However, Galeffi's stomach-soothing capabilities are very apparent; they have aided me after bouts of overindulging.
Galeffi in a flute glass is a strangely suitable coda for a dinner party full of chronically queasy 20-somethings. It's good enough to toast with—at least until the debt clears.
