New Educational Materials for 2020 Census Data on data.census.gov

On September 16, we released 2020 Census Redistricting Data (Public Law 94-171) on data.census.gov. Through this release, you can get data from 6 tables covering high level information on topics such as total population, race, ethnicity, people 18 and over, housing units, and group quarters. These data are available for selected geographies down to the block level.

To learn how easy it is to access these data, please see our Guidance for 2020 Redistricting Data Users webpage. Through the short videos and written instructions, you will find a variety of tips and tricks to help you make the most of accessing 2020 Census data on data.census.gov.

Latest System Updates

Last month, we released new updates to improve your experience on data.census.gov. With this release, you will now see:

  • More Collections of Geographies
  • Improved Table ID Search
  • Links to Upcoming American Community Survey 1-Year Experimental Data
  • Technical Banner Enhancements
  • Fixes to 43 defects

Learn More

The major focus of the release is to make it easier to select collections of geographies in a single click. We rolled out 40 new options for you to select geographies in bulk. For example, you will now see options to choose "All Census Tracts in the United States," "All Census Tracts fully/partially within a Congressional District," or "All Blocks within a Census Tract." You can use many of these new options to get results from the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (PL 94-171), as well as historical data from the American Community Survey and decennial census.

Most of the new options to select collections of geographies in bulk are for geographies that do not fit neatly within a higher-level geography. The option for "All Census Tracts fully/partially within a Congressional District" is an example of this because census tracts may cross congressional district boundaries. We developed technical solutions behind the scenes so you can now access data for these types of geographies easily.

You will also see improved messaging as you work through the site. This includes new messaging for upcoming 2020 ACS 1-Year Experimental Estimates, more frequent banner updates, and a formal recognition of table IDs when you search for them in the single search bar.
