STATS FOR STORIES (SFS)

The 2020 Summer Olympic Games begin in Tokyo on July 21 (two days before the Opening Ceremony). Summer 2021 continues, as does National Ice Cream Month and the 2021 Hurricane Season.

The games are 339 events in 33 sports: new are karate, surfing, sport climbing and skateboarding (baseball/softball returns). Tokyo is the world's most populous metropolitan area with 37.4 million people. The USA has 2528 medals in current games (1896-2016).
