A new wave of migrants fleeing poverty, violence, and other challenges across the northern part of Central America is casting a spotlight on a worsening humanitarian crisis. Over two million people are estimated to have left El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras since 2014. The compounding effects of political instability, economic insecurity, climate change, and the impacts of the pandemic have been exacerbating the situation.

President Biden’s recent Executive Order focused on creating a framework to address the root causes of forced migration across northern Central America signals a growing recognition that this crisis demands new, comprehensive, multi-sectoral approaches to address the complex interplay of regional fragility and risks. To build awareness and momentum for change, Foreign Policy has partnered with World Vision and the World Bank on a first-of-its-kind simulation focused on resilience. Leading practitioners from across sectors will work through a scenario challenging them to navigate the social, economic, political and environmental concerns at the core of this crisis.

We’re excited to share the insights and recommendations garnered from this exercise, and to further examine this urgent issue, during our upcoming FP Virtual Dialogue. Join us on July 22nd as we convene leading voices from government, private sector, and civil society to explore a changing paradigm for regional development and capacity-building that prioritizes fostering resilience and systemic reform to help stem forced migration. Regional leaders and issue experts will discuss societal and structural reforms and adaptive approaches to international crisis management.

Join us to hear from these and other experts and ask your questions:
