The following Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) reports were released on Tuesday, March 16, 2021.

Bolivia: Bolivia Approves Biodiesel Production

The Government of Bolivia approved the production of biodiesel in 2019 and now plans to build a processing plant in Santa Cruz. The plant is projected to have a production capacity of 1.4 million liters per day and is planned to be operational by 2024. If a mandate of five percent is implemented, the plant could require soy crude oil from 20 percent of Bolivia's three million metric ton soybean crop.

India: Livestock and Products Semi-annual

Indian water buffalo meat (carabeef) and beef (bovine) production in calendar year 2021 is projected to total about 4.1 million metric tons (MMT), three percent above the previous estimate. Rising cattle numbers and improvement in India's domestic supply chain support the anticipated expansion. Also, improving international demand will help lift carabeef exports to 1.4 MMT against the earlier projection of 1.2 million metric tons. Production and export sales in 2020 are likewise revised. Indian carabeef is a byproduct of the dairy sector, which diverts spent/unproductive water buffalo cows and bulls to slaughter. These animals are not raised normally for carabeef production. Any second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will affect India's export prospects. [Note: Carabeef and beef production and trade are reported in carcass weight equivalent (CWE)].

Israel: Grain and Feed Annual

Israel is almost completely dependent on imports to meet its grain and feed needs. In recent years, dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) and corn gluten feed (CGF) imports have increased significantly. FAS Tel Aviv (Post) forecasts Israel's imports of wheat – primarily feed wheat – in market year (MY) 2021/22 to reach 1.65 million metric tons (MMT), with almost no change from Post's MY 2020/21 figure. In MY 2020/21, U.S. wheat accounted for 5.5 percent of the market, up 1.8 percent from the previous year. Post forecasts Israel's imports of corn in MY 2021/22 to reach 2 MMT, of which 180 thousand metric tons (TMT) are expected to be of U.S.-origin. Post forecasts that imports of grain and feed will remain stable despite local annual population growth of two percent due to COVID-19 restrictions, limited operations of the hotel, restaurant, and institutional food sector (HRI), and strict government production quotas for milk and eggs
