Who's Getting Vaccinated

Minnesota is continuing to vaccinate those at highest risk of getting COVID-19, as well as those most at risk of severe disease and complications if they become infected. Adults 65 years and older are among the most vulnerable to COVID-19. Once 70% of the state's seniors receive the vaccine, Minnesota will expand eligibility based on underlying health conditions, age, and workplace exposure risk:

  • By April, we expect vaccines will be available to Minnesotans with medical conditions that put them in the most extreme high-risk category if they get COVID-19, and certain frontline workers who are most at risk of contracting the virus.
  • By May, we expect vaccines will be available for Minnesotans with other medical conditions that put them at heightened risk, additional frontline essential workers, and Minnesotans 50 years and older living in multi-generational housing.
  • By late spring, we expect vaccines will be available for Minnesotans 16 years and older with medical conditions, all adults aged 50-64, and all other essential workforces.
  • Beginning this summer, we expect all Minnesotans will have access to the vaccine.

All Minnesotans who have not been vaccinated should sign up for the COVID-19 Vaccine Connector to receive updates on who is eligible and local vaccine opportunities when they become available.

What's New

Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 Vaccine

After rigorous scientific and medical review, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a game-changer that will help us provide protection against COVID-19 to even more Minnesotans. This vaccine is safe, virtually 100% effective at preventing hospitalization and death in people 18 and older, and requires only one dose.

Our initial allocation is 45,200 doses, which will be widely distributed this week. Future allocations of Johnson & Johnson are uncertain but we are optimistic about the longer-term outlook.

Alongside previously authorized vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna, it represents another step toward ending the COVID-19 pandemic. All Minnesotans should be confident that every authorized vaccine is safe and effective, and we encourage everyone to get whatever COVID-19 vaccine they are offered.

Stay Safe Outdoors

Many Minnesotans are taking advantage of the warmer weather and enjoying all the parks, trails, and outdoor recreation opportunities we have available to us. Getting outside is a great way to stay active, get some fresh air, and relieve stress.

Remember to stay 6 feet from others and wear a mask when gathering with up to two other households (15 people max). Exercise caution with shared amenities or outdoor equipment. Be sure to sanitize items and wash your hands often.

Scooch over, Minnesota. Stay 6 feet apart. Stay Safe MN.
