Winter Freeze Next Week

Texas is bracing for a winter freeze next week as arctic air pushes through the state.

After a warm weekend, Texans can expect a sharp drop in temperatures statewide, and snow and freezing rain is possible in some areas, including Houston.

New Texas Sheriffs Sworn In

There's a new sheriff in town across many Texas counties after swearing-in ceremonies on New Year's Day.

New El Paso Sheriff Oscar Ugarte takes over for his 16-year predecessor with the stated goal "to make El Paso the safest community in the country."

Galveston County's new Sheriff Jimmy Fullen made a splash by saying he would end Jeep Weekend, a hugely popular, but volatile event that saw 300 arrests in 2024.

Now entering his fourth term, Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith was sworn in along with more than 200 law enforcement officers.

5 TX Cities Among Fastest-Growing in U.S.

Five Texas cities were in the top 15 cities for year-over-year growth from 2022 to 2023, with four cracking the top ten.

New Braunfels, Georgetown, and Atascocita took the number two, four, and five spots respectively, all with double-digit percentages in growth.

Conroe slotted in at nine and Round Rock at 14.
