| State Legislative Agenda Takes Shape The 2025 legislative session opens next week with an expected focus on hurricane relief, tort reform, and the participation of transgender athletes in girls' sports among the top agenda items. More than 20 new state House and Senate members will serve in the 236-person state General Assembly, one of the nation's largest state legislatures. Republicans retained a solid majority of seats in the November election, with state House Speaker Jon Burns, R-Newington, saying voters rewarded the GOP's focus on taxes, safety, and schools. | Coming Storm Draws Georgia's Focus Much of Georgia dealt with a blast of cold and wind Monday as a deadly winter storm passed to the north, but the state's main focus remained on the growing chances for snow on Friday. The five-day forecast for metro Atlanta calls for sunshine and daytime highs around 40 degrees from Tuesday until Friday, when a mix of rain and snow could start and continue into Saturday. Nationally, the first major winter storm of the season brought more than a foot of snow, blizzard conditions, and power outages from Kansas to the East Coast. | Georgians Share Experiences of Terror Attack The University of Georgia student hurt in the Bourbon Street terror attack shared a social post with a photo of her and her injured friend holding hands with their hospital beds pushed together, saying she's grateful both are alive. Family members say Elle Eisele, 19, of Fort Myers, Fla., is being treated at University Medical Center in New Orleans. Details about her injuries and a timeline for her recovery have not been released. Meanwhile, coaches, staff, and players of the Georgia and Notre Dame football teams shared their experiences following the attack, when the teams were placed on informal lockdown and their Sugar Bowl game was postponed a day. | |
