Article Icon 1Top Stories of 2024

Since The Texas Flyover launched last January, we’ve grown to nearly 250,000 readers, delivering straightforward, hard-hitting news to start each day.

In today’s edition, we’ve compiled some of this year’s most-clicked stories, covering the biggest events in Texas over the past 12 months, including the total solar eclipse, Hurricane Beryl, and the inaugural MICHELIN Texas Guide.

However, nothing came close to topping the clicks on the August 23 story about the 90-foot Lord Hanuman statue installed at a Hindu temple in Sugar Land.

Please enjoy this compilation of the year’s top stories, and we hope you’ll continue to start your day with us in the new year.

Article Icon 1Vehicle Safety Inspections Eliminated

Thanks to a state law passed in 2023, safety inspections are no longer required for renewing the registration of non-commercial vehicles in Texas.

However, drivers in 17 highly populated counties—Bexar County will be added in 2026—must still pass an emissions test if they don’t drive an electric vehicle.

House Bill 3297 was backed by Tesla and advocates for reducing the size of government, while county sheriffs, the Dallas Police Association, and the Texas State Inspection Association tried to prevent its passage.

To compensate for lost state revenue, drivers will be assessed a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee when they renew their vehicle’s registration. Safety inspections are still required for commercial vehicles.
