Colorado Soldier Linked to Vegas Blast

The driver of the Tesla Cybertruck that exploded outside the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas on Wednesday has been identified as active-duty Army soldier Matthew Livelsberger of Colorado Springs.

Livelsberger served as a Green Beret in the Army and was on approved leave from serving in Germany at the time of his death.

Authorities had already linked Livelsberger to the vehicle through a rental made via the Turo app. Officials now confirm that he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head prior to the blast. However, identifying him as the driver still requires further forensic work.

Livelsberger reportedly served at the same military base as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, the suspect in the deadly car-ramming attack in New Orleans that killed 15. However, authorities have said that they have found "no definitive link" between the Las Vegas explosion and the attack in New Orleans.

Investigators believe the act was intentional but are still determining the motive.

Phil Weiser Enters 2026 Governor’s Race

Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser launched his 2026 gubernatorial campaign on Thursday.

Weiser is the first major Democrat to enter the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Jared Polis.

Potential Democratic challengers include Secretary of State Jena Griswold, U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse, U.S. Rep. Jason Crow, and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ken Salazar.

According to a recent poll, Neguse leads the field with 20% support among likely Democratic primary voters. Griswold follows at 16%, Salazar at 11%, and Weiser at 8%, while a significant portion of voters remain undecided.

Denver Secures NWSL Team for $110M

Denver has secured the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) 16th franchise with a record $110 million expansion fee, more than double the league's previous high and the largest in U.S. women’s sports.

IMA Financial Group CEO Robert Cohen leads the bid group, which has already made its first payment. The group plans to build a soccer-specific stadium but will use a temporary venue in the interim.

Denver beat out bids from Cleveland and Cincinnati, marking another milestone in the NWSL’s rapid growth.

Recent expansions include Bay FC and Utah Royals, with Boston set to join in 2026. Team valuations have surged, with Angel City FC valued at $250 million and the league’s average club valuation at $104 million.
