Leaders from both parties in Georgia reacted to a historic election that saw Donald Trump claim victory.

Republican Lt. Gov. Burt Jones praised Trump's win, saying, “It was a great win. It was a historic win, but he earned it too. That man worked his tail off.”

Democrats reflected on their loss, with State Senator Jason Esteves stating, “I think it’s a wake-up call for us Democrats to retool, to refine our message.” The party plans to adjust its strategies for future elections, focusing on listening to voter feedback.

Gov. Brian Kemp congratulated Trump, stating, “We look forward to working together to put hardworking Americans first and get our country back on track.”

Forsyth County voters approved a referendum allowing a tax allocation district (TAD) for the 100-acre Gathering at South Forsyth development project.

The Gathering, designed as a $2 billion mixed-use development, could position the county to attract a National Hockey League team.

The vote enables Forsyth County to support building a $225 million arena by using tax revenue generated within the TAD to repay bonds over 20 years without imposing additional taxes on residents outside the development area.

County officials have been preparing to accommodate increased traffic and business growth expected from the project. Supporters view the arena as a potential economic boon.

Article Icon 1Camilla City Council Election Ends at 3:50 A.M.

Camilla’s city council election didn’t begin until 3:50 p.m. on Tuesday and extended through 3:50 a.m. Wednesday. The delay came after Mayor Kelvin Owens canceled the election, citing resignations by two city election officials.

A judge intervened on Tuesday morning, appointing new officials and directing the polls to remain open for a full 12 hours as required under Georgia law.

The cancellation marked a peak in a broader legal dispute over candidate Venterra Pollard, disqualified for not meeting residency requirements—a decision upheld by the State Supreme Court last Friday.

Ultimately, the election proceeded, with Oscar Maples, Jr. emerging as the winner in the late-night vote.
