Good morning! On this day in 1528, Álvar Núñez Cabeza de Vaca and 80 other survivors of the Narváez expedition washed up on Galveston Island after sailing on makeshift rafts from Florida. Cabeza de Vaca and his companions were the first Europeans to set foot in Texas and live to tell the tale.

The results are in! President-elect Donald Trump won Texas' 40 electoral votes on his way to a resounding victory last night. Senator Ted Cruz defeated Rep. Colin Allred, and Texans made important decisions on a host of issues. We've got a breakdown for you in today's Roundup.

Trump Wins 2nd Term as President

Donald Trump won the White House for a second time early Wednesday morning, taking Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Georgia, and leading in the other swing states as of 1 a.m. CT.

In Texas, Trump beat Harris 56.7% to 42.1%, giving him the state's 40 electoral votes. He won nearly every county in South Texas, reflecting gains among Hispanics.

Nationally, Trump also appeared to win the popular vote. At 2 a.m. he had 66.5 million votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 61.6 million. In his first election, Trump won the Electoral College but lost the popular vote.

Harris campaign officials said she would make no statement Tuesday night as her supporters began leaving her watch party at Howard University. Trump spoke to his supporters at 1:30 a.m. CT.

Cruz Wins Reelection

Sen. Ted Cruz won reelection yesterday, defeating his Democratic opponent Colin Allred 51% to 42%, according to results as of press time.

The race was one of the most closely watched in the nation, with both campaigns raising close to $170 million and outside groups investing millions more.

Throughout the race, Cruz touted his support for former President Donald Trump's border security and immigration policies, while Allred tried to tie Cruz to the state's strict abortion ban and repeatedly attacked him for his trip to Cancun during a winter storm in 2021.

Despite repeated efforts to flip the state amid changing demographics, Democrats have not won a statewide office in Texas since 1994.

Texans Vote on Schools, Marijuana, and Abortion

Voters in Houston, Dallas, and Amarillo weighed in on some high-profile propositions yesterday.

Houstonians rejected a two-part $4.4 billion school bond, the largest in state history and the district's first since 2012, by a margin of 60% to 40%, according to preliminary results.

Meanwhile, Dallas residents approved a city charter amendment decriminalizing possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. Early results show the amendment passing 65% to 35%.

Finally, 57% of Amarillo voters rejected a measure to designate the city as a Sanctuary City for the Unborn, which would have banned the use of abortion-inducing drugs and prohibited people from transporting a pregnant woman to another state to receive an abortion.

➤ Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar awarded $18.5 million to 17 rural counties to install poles for broadband internet service. The funding comes from the new Broadband Infrastructure Fund, which Texas voters approved last year. (More)

➤ New Braunfels: Cameron Darrick Peterson, 20, pleaded guilty to planning attacks at the local Buc-ee's, several area high schools, and a grocery store. (More)

➤ Dallas: The city's Parks and Recreation Department is deploying robotic lawnmowers at the 277-acre Kiest Softball Complex. Department Director John Jenkins said the $250,000 investment will not eliminate any current jobs. (Watch Video)

➤ Harris County: Former Sheriff's Office Sergeant Garret Hardin was found not guilty by a jury Monday in the 2023 killing of Roderick Brooks, 47, who tried to grab Hardin's taser while the officer was arresting him for attempted shoplifting. (See Details)

➤ Bastrop County: The lone registered voter in a proposed Municipal Utility District approved the creation of the special jurisdiction and the imposition of a property tax to fund bonds totaling $1.2 billion. (See Result)
