Trump easily won Florida’s 30 Electoral College votes Tuesday with 56.2% of the vote, more than in either of his previous runs in 2016 and 2020. Nationally Trump also appeared to win the popular vote. At 2 a.m. he had 66.5 million votes to Vice President Kamala Harris’ 61.6 million. In his first election, Trump won the Electoral College but lost the popular vote. Harris campaign officials said she would make no statement Tuesday night as her supporters began leaving her watch party at Howard University. | Abortion and Marijuana Fail to Hit 60% Florida voters rejected ballot measures on Election Day that would have legalized recreational marijuana for adults over 21 and another that would have enshrined abortion rights in the state constitution. In both cases, the majority of voters supported the amendment, but the 60% required threshold was not met. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republican legislative leaders opposed the marijuana measure and campaigned hard against it, despite former President Donald Trump expressing support for its passage. Abortion rights have succeeded in seven states previously with ballot measures on the issue since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. This year, Florida was one of 10 states with an abortion-related ballot question. | Rick Scott Wins Florida Senate Race Republican Rick Scott won his Florida Senate race against Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on Tuesday, securing his second term in the U.S. Senate. The 71-year-old former governor campaigned on low taxes, reduced federal spending, and strong border security. Mucarsel-Powell, 53, focused on healthcare, immigration reform, and environmental protection. During the campaign, Scott accused Mucarsel-Powell of supporting open borders and policies that hurt small businesses, reinforcing his appeal to conservative voters. | | | ➤ Hurricane Rafael is set to hit Cuba as a Category 2 storm.
