Good Morning! On this day in 2000, a statewide recount began in Florida, which was critical in deciding the winner of the 2000 Presidential Election. The recount officially ended on Dec. 12 on the orders of the U.S. Supreme Court, delivering Florida’s electoral votes and the presidency to George W. Bush.

11 Florida Counties Approve School Taxes

Of the 11 Florida counties that approved a millage tax to support schools during Tuesday's elections, Sarasota County's 84.06% approval rate was the largest positive margin.

"This resounding victory is a testament to a community that appreciates the importance of a school district that prioritizes quality education and student achievement,” said Max Goodman, who worked for the passage of the referendum in Sarasota County.

All 11 counties approved their school tax proposals by sizable margins, with 82.56% of Manatee County voters in favor and Hernando County coming in at about 65% approval.

Home Depot Co-Founder Dies in Boca Raton

Bernard “Bernie” Marcus, co-founder of The Home Depot, a billionaire philanthropist, and a prominent Republican donor, died Monday in Boca Raton at age 95.

Marcus served as Home Depot’s CEO during rapid growth in its first two decades and was chairman of the board until his retirement in 2002.

Home Depot is the world’s largest home improvement chain. In recent years, Marcus became an outspoken supporter of Donald Trump.

“[Bernie] was a master merchant and a retail visionary," a company statement read. "But even more importantly, he valued our associates, customers, and communities above all.”
