Article Icon 1Helene: A Florida Hurricane Danger

Tropical Storm Helene is expected to form in the western Caribbean Sea and could intensify into a strong hurricane before impacting Florida or the northern Gulf Coast later this week.

On Monday, Gov. Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency for 41 counties, noting that water levels remain higher due to Hurricane Debby's effects, and the anticipated rainfall may lead to flooding and power outages.

Most forecast models suggest Helene will make landfall in Florida or the northern Gulf Coast on Thursday. However, some high surf and outer rain bands could reach parts of Florida's Gulf Coast from the Keys to the Panhandle by Wednesday.

Some computer models project tracks ranging from Florida's West Coast to southeast Louisiana. Weather officials urge everyone along the Gulf Coast to stay informed and prepare their hurricane kits.

Article Icon 1Lactaid Milk Recall

Lactaid brand lactose-free milk has been recalled in 27 states, including Florida, due to potential almond traces that could pose a risk to those with nut allergies.

Though no illnesses related to the potentially contaminated milk have been reported, the FDA says those with nut allergies may risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction.

Manufacturer HP Hood issued the recall for 96-ounce cartons of the milk. Customers can check the SKU codes on their milk to determine if it's included in the recall. See the chart here.

Article Icon 1Dry Tortugas Named Underrated Gem

Dry Tortugas National Park, located 70 miles off the coast of Key West, was named the third most underrated national park based on parks with fewer than 750,000 visitors.

The park is known for its incredibly blue waters, 200-year history, untouched environment, and faraway tropical location.

One of just three designated national parks in Florida, the park is 99% underwater and comprises seven islands that are only accessible by boat or seaplane. The area is known for its coral reefs and thriving marine life.

Dry Tortugas is joined at the top of the list by North Cascades National Park in Washington (No. 1) and Isle Royale National Park in Lake Superior, Michigan (No. 2).
