Thursday, 30 May 2024 WHA Highlights Day 4 of the 77th World Health Assembly (30 May) The Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly (WHA) continues at the Palais des Nations in Geneva today and will meet in Committee A (Room XX), Committee B (Room XVII) and the Drafting group on items 13.3 (IHR) & 13.4 (INB) (Room XXVI). Working hours today are from 09.00 to 12.00; 14.30 to 17.30; and 18.00 to 21.30 CEST. The detailed programme of work can be found in the Daily Journal N°4, available in six languages of the United Nations (UN). Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Highlights of the day: - Committee A will hear the presentation of the WHO strategic and operational priorities to address drug-resistant bacterial infections in the human health sector, 2025–2035 (A77/5) and will consider a draft resolution on accelerating national and global responses to antimicrobial resistance (A77/A/CONF./1). It will also discuss the Global technical strategy and targets for malaria 2016–2030 (A77/6) and consider the draft text on accelerating progress towards reducing maternal, newborn and child mortality (A77/A/CONF./5)
- Reports of the Independent Oversight and Advisory Committee (IOAC) for the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (A77/7), Implementation of the International Health Regulations (2005) (A77/8 and its four addenda regarding Director-General's standing recommendations for COVID-19 and mpox), and WHO's work in health emergencies (A77/4, A77/11) will be presented in Committee A.
- Committee A will take action on draft texts on Universal health and preparedness review (EB154(9)), Strengthening laboratory biological risk management (EB154(10)), Strengthening health emergency preparedness for disasters resulting from natural hazards (A77/A/CONF./4 and its amendment contained in A77/A/CONF./13), and on Global Health and Peace Initiative (EB154(11)).
- On Management, legal and governance matters, Committee B will discuss the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse and harassment (A77/4 and A77/42), the process of handling and investigating potential allegations against WHO Directors-General (A77/27 Rev.1 and A77/41) and the implementation of WHO reforms (A77/28 and A77/40).
- Committee B will further address social determinants of health, maternal, infant and young child nutrition and well-being and health promotion (A77/4), including a draft resolution on strengthening health and well-being through sport events (EB154(13)).
- On climate change, pollution and health, Committee B will hear reports on the impact of chemicals, waste and pollution on human health and climate change and health (A77/4), and will consider two draft resolutions, on climate change and health (A77/A/CONF./7) and on economics and health for all (A77/A/CONF./2).
- Strategic round table: Artificial intelligence for health: opportunities, risks, and governance, 13.00–14.15 CEST, Room XVIII, Palais des Nations
