Click here Tuesday, 28 May 2024 WHA Highlights Day 2 of the 77th World Health Assembly (28 May) The Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly (WHA) continues at the Palais des Nations in Geneva today, and will meet in Plenary and Committee A, from 09.00 to 12.00; 14.30 to 17.30; and 18.00 to 21.00 CEST. The Committee on Credentials will meet at 14.00 CEST. The detailed programme of work can be found in the Daily Journal N°2, available in six languages of the United Nations (UN). Simultaneous interpretation will be available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish. Today, the Plenary will continue its general discussion on Item 3, the report by the WHO Director-General (A77/3) which was delivered yesterday, 27 May. Before taking up agenda items on Public health emergencies: preparedness and response (INB and IHR amendments), Committee A is expected to conclude the consideration of the Draft fourteenth general programme of work (GPW14), 2025-2028 (A77/16), financing and implementation of the Programme budget 2024-2025 (A77/14 and A77/15) and the WHO investment round (A77/17, EB154/2024/REC/1, decision EB154(1). The strategic table "All for Health, Health for All: the WHO Investment Case, 2025-2028" will mark the launch of an Investment Case, which will underpin WHO’s first-ever Investment Round. Speakers will set out WHO’s unique role in global health, consider the opportunities and challenges for global health in the next four years, and share their support for a successful Investment Round as Member States and others rally around a sustainably financed WHO. The "Celebrating 50 years of immunization progress: honouring achievements, embracing innovation, and envisioning the future" strategic table will celebrate the remarkable achievements and countless lives saved through 50 years of the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) and call for renewed political commitment to sustain, invest in and strengthen essential immunization programmes worldwide. Speakers will include Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, Ted Chaiban, UNICEF Deputy Executive Director, Dr Sania Nishtar CEO, Gavi The Vaccine Alliance, several ministers of health and other dignitaries.
