Good morning my friend! Isn't it a glorious day? I woke up today, did you? Then it's a great day! Let's get RIGHT TO IT! This week we updated an old favorite, "How to Cook Canned Pinto Beans". You DO know that with a little "doctoring" a can of pinto beans can taste almost as good as homecooked beans that you worked on for hours, right? Yeah, I knew you knew that. Then because someone asked me, I wrote an article about how to make an egg wash. An egg wash will make your delicious pies, rolls and other pastry baked goods look like a full on professional made them! Sarah made this Chive Oil and boy is it delicious! It's a finishing oil so you add a little drizzle to things like crusty bread or pasta and wow! Yum! This Dirty Soda has been super popular on YouTube, I thought you might like it oo! ______________________ HOT COOKING TIP OF THE WEEK "How Do You Get that Delicious Char On Here???" I've been asked that about a million times. Here's the secret: sugar. When you see a char on something, you can be about sure that the natural sugars in the food when met with the hot heat of the pan causes that delicious char! To add a bit of extra char, add a sweet sauce to the surface of your burger or steak. You could also add a sprinkle of sugar (just a little tiny bit). Most vegetables can benefit from a little sprinkle of sugar too. ___________________ THREE LITTLE THINGS I'm trying to be more thankful for the little things here and hopeful that this will remind you to be more thankful too. I realize that this week is all about animals - I mean, I love animals and that is what a lot of my life centers around. So, I hope you will indulge me. - The humming birds are back and fighting like prize fighters on my deck. In fact, I've got to make some more hummingbird food in just a minute. I love to see their beautiful green bodies and ruby red throats. I only see the males right now. The ladies are no where to be seen yet.
- A stray cat took up residence here a couple of weeks ago and now, guess what? Kittens. Three of them. Although I'm a little stressed about how to take care of all of them, I know God will provide and I will find them all homes. Need a kitten? They sure are cute!
- My current foster dog got a great home! He goes next week! I couldn't be happier for him. He has only been here a couple of weeks and what a blessing it is that he will have a perfect home. If you have some extra room in your home and would like to find out about fostering, feel free to contact me, I can give you information about what it's like to foster and if you are in NC, I can even hook you up with a great foster organization!
____________________ A FINAL WORD I can't begin to fathom what is happening in this old world. I don't understand why people are being so mean to each other. I DO hope that if you are aware of someone who is hungry, regardless of their history, background, nationality, etc. that you would offer them something to eat. A pack of peanut butter crackers and some juice or water? Something? I won't go into it here, but that's my wish. Please give some food to the hungry. I hope you know how loved you are. You are welcome to write to me any time at all. I answer every email and you can email me by clicking "reply" to this newsletter. We can talk food or whatever. Much love, see you next time, God willing and the creeks don't rise. Wendi |
