Latest System Updates

In March, we released new updates to improve your experience on data.census.gov. With this release, you will now see:

  • Refreshed download experience
  • Improved typeahead search suggestions
  • Improved table display for Monthly Population Estimates for the U.S.
  • Fixes to 15 defects

The primary feature of the release is the refreshed download experience. This includes new buttons at the top of the table to clearly indicate the initial file format you will receive:

  1. Use the Excel or CSV buttons to get readable output that looks similar to the table display

With the new experience, table downloads now occur in the background. This allows you to queue up multiple downloads at the same time or continue to use the site as you wait for your downloads to complete.

You will also notice improved typeahead search suggestions. The first result now matches our top suggestion for your search, providing greater clarity and ease of use.

And finally, we added a recommended pivot to Population Estimates Program table NA_EST2021_POP. This reorganizes the table layout to make the table more readable to you in the default view.

Downloaded (ZIP) files provides machine-readable output.

Exported (Excel and CSV) files provide a readable file format that looks similar to the table display on data.census.gov, and includes all of your customizations.
