In this blog, Dr Rosie Benneyworth, Chief Inspector of Primary Medical Services and Integrated Care, talks about how the CQC is supporting innovation by GPs to reduce health inequalities in areas of deprivation, through better regulatory recognition and the sharing of best practice. This project is in partnership with the Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network and is funded by a grant from the Regulators' Pioneer Fund. Public Health England has published a new version of Delivering better oral health. This updated toolkit will help both dental teams and wider health and social care professionals to provide high quality preventative care and advice to their patients and people in their care. It can also be used as an evidence-based teaching resource. The key new elements are: - Delivering Better Oral: an evidence based toolkit for prevention (fourth edition) has been developed through a wider UK collaboration of experts, frontline practitioners and for the first time patient representatives
- New content on:
- infant feeding
- early detection of oral cancer and more detail on tobacco cessation and alcohol reduction
- a new table on tooth wear, focusing on accelerated tooth wear.
In addition, the importance of effectively supporting behaviour change is acknowledged, with practical examples as case studies. There is also a greater consideration of the oral health of older people and other vulnerable groups. NHSX has published the NHS's first ever Digital Clinical Safety Strategy. Building on the NHS patient safety strategy, it sets out two clear aims: - To improve the safety of digital technologies in health and care, now and in the future.
- To identify and promote the use of digital technologies as solutions to enduring patient safety problems.
Safe digital health technologies are critical to COVID-19 recovery efforts. You can read the strategy on the NHSX website and contact the team at nhsxdigitalsafety@nhsx.nhs.uk with any feedback. | | Ted Baker, Chief Inspector of Hospitals, has announced plans to retire in March 2022 after nearly five years in post. After holding the position of Deputy Chief Inspector since 2014, Ted became Chief Inspector in July 2017 and since then has been instrumental in shaping the way CQC regulates hospital services, driving great collaboration between services and local systems to help improve care. Ted has worked at every level of the health system, with over 35 years of clinical experience, and held many senior academic positions in the UK and abroad. He has been a passionate champion of patient safety, and under his leadership CQC has been able to identify problems earlier and act more quickly to drive improvement. | Following the launch of our new strategy in May we've been working to develop proposals for a future regulatory model.
In this new podcast episode you can hear from our Heads of Policy Dave James and Amanda Hutchinson on our latest thinking around evidence categories and outputs from assessments. From 11 November 2021, all staff entering a care home need to be vaccinated unless exempt. Following the publication of Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) operational guidance, NHS England and NHS Improvement have written to the NHS and published FAQs on how this new regulation will be delivered operationally. The FAQs will be updated on a regular basis to support systems and providers to implement this new regulation. These FAQs should be read alongside the DHSC operational guidance. |
