This week's edition highlights updated guidance on having good ventilation in your workplace to help reduce transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19). This includes a new video that sets out the key advice. There is guidance on working safely as England has moved to Step 4 on the UK government's COVID-19 roadmap. We also provide links to information on the different requirements in Scotland and Wales. In addition, there is guidance on lone working, details of recent enforcement prosecutions and links to our latest job vacancies. For all the latest health and safety updates visit our website. | | |  HSE's updated guidance will help you identify poor ventilation in work areas and take practical steps to improve it. This can help reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading in your workplace. Our updated guidance includes information on: - identifying poorly ventilated areas and using CO2 monitors
- improving natural ventilation
- how to improve mechanical ventilation
- air cleaning and filtration units
- ventilation in work vehicles
We also have a new video setting out the key advice. You can also find examples of how businesses have improved ventilation to reduce COVID-19 transmission in the workplace. | England has moved to Step 4 of the UK government's COVID-19 roadmap. This has meant the removal of many restrictions. Our webpage on keeping workplaces safe outlines some of the changes you need to know about: - controls to use after some restrictions are removed

- different approaches and timescales for removal of restrictions in Scotland and Wales
Despite these changes, you must still control risk and review and update your risk assessment. Find a full range of COVID-19 related information and advice on HSE's coronavirus pages.  Lone workers can be at greater risk of harm as they may not have anyone to help or support them if things go wrong. Employers should provide training, supervision, monitoring and support for those working alone. Our free to download leaflet 'Protecting lone workers: How to manage the risks of working alone' is for anyone who employs lone workers, or engages them as contractors etc, including self-employed people or those who work alone. The leaflet is supported by lone working webpages which include advice aimed at lone workers themselves. | A lighting manufacturer in Blackburn has been fined after an employee was fatally injured when the forklift truck he was driving struck an overhead steel beam. The employee was operating a forklift truck to move pallets at the company premises when the mast of the truck hit a low overhead structural beam, which caused it to overturn. The employee was trapped underneath the roll cage and received fatal crush injuries. Read this press release for more details.
