One year later, FDA Advances New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint Goals July 13, 2021 One year ago today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration released the New Era of Smarter Food Safety Blueprint. In the past year, we've made significant progress in working toward the goals outlined in the blueprint, even in the midst of a pandemic. In FDA Voices, Janet Woodcock, M.D., Acting Commissioner of Food and Drugs, and Frank Yiannas, Deputy Commissioner for Food Policy and Response, acknowledge what has been achieved in FDA's efforts to keep pace with a rapidly evolving global food system. They address how FDA learned during the COVID-19 pandemic that there is an accelerated need for certain New Era of Smarter Food Safety goals. They also recognize that the New Era initiative advances the agency-wide commitment to modernize data and enhance inspections.
