How to make fermented pickles 🌿

Hi There,

I don't know about you, but I'm starting to see pickling cucumbers at the farmers market and I am SO excited. Making pickles is one of my favorite summer past times - I love them in all their salty-sour-garlicky goodness.

And I want to share the easiest pickle recipe with you - like 5 minutes and you're done easy.

Here's what you should give it a try:

  1. It takes about 5 minutes. All you need to do is pack a jar full of pickling cucumbers and spices, then cover them with saltwater.  And then wait a few weeks for the good bacteria to do their work.
  2. A horseradish (or oak or grape) leaf helps keep your pickles firm and crunchy. You can often find them at farmers market or community garden. Frozen grape leaves are available at specialty markets. And black tea works in a pinch.
  3. They're loaded with good bacteria. These pickles are naturally fermented which means they're brimming with good bacteria (just like yogurt or kombucha!)
  4. You can adjust the flavor if you like. We're fond of garlic and dill, but you can also drop a few chili peppers in there if you like, too.
  5. If you're nervous about fermenting, you can pick up a Pickle Kit from Cultures for Health. You'll have the equipment you need, some tips, and then just follow my recipe. 💚
