The following GAIN reports were released on July 12, 2021. _______ On July 5, 2021, the European Commission and agri-food industry stakeholders launched the European Union's Code of Conduct on Responsible Food Business and Marketing Practices as part of the EU Farm to Fork Strategy (F2F). The voluntary Code aims to push agri-food industry to accelerate their contribution to a sustainable transition. On July 2, 2021, Indonesia notified a draft Decree of The Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia Number __ of 2021 regarding Types of Products and Consumer Goods Products Mandatory to be Halal Certified to the WTO TBT Committee as G/TBT/N/IDN/134. The comment deadline is August 31, 2021. Comments can be sent to Indonesia's TBT Enquiry Point at tbt.indonesia@gmail.com and tbt.indonesia@bsn.go.id. This report contains an unofficial translation of the draft Decree. This report reflects updates made by the Government of Japan to its guidelines for handling food and agricultural products derived from genome editing technology. The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare (MHLW) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) revised their handling procedures for products derived from the crossbreeding of genome edited varieties which have already been notified to the two ministries. Developers of these products are no longer expected to undergo the MHLW and MAFF consultation processes. This report is an update to GAIN JA2020-0184. In light of pandemic-related macroeconomic shocks during 2020, 2021 is showing slow, but steady growth for dairy product production and consumption in Mexico. Even with ongoing regional drought, the dairy heard has not been reduced in size and milk production continues to rise. Industrial producers and processors have fared better than small- and medium-sized producers due to economies of scale. However, growing inequality in purchasing power across socioeconomic levels, as reflected in official statistics showing close to 60 percent of the population now living in poverty, hamper expectations of a quick recovery to pre-pandemic levels, particularly outside of beach resort and hotel, restaurant, and institution (HRI) hot spots. On June 18, 2021, the Department of Health issued Administrative Order No. 2021-0039 (AO 2021-0039) "National Policy on the Elimination of Industrially Produced Trans-Fatty Acids for the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases." On June 27, 2021, the South African government announced that the country would be under a heightened, level 4 lockdown as a result of the rise in COVID-19 infections and the increase in hospital admissions. The lockdown restrictions affect the livestock industry, as patrons are currently not allowed to gather for auctions. Furthermore, restaurants and hotels are only allowed to sell takeaways because sit-ins are restricted. These heightened restrictions were introduced for a 14-day period; however, the government could extend the duration of these measures if the COVID-19 infection rate does not improve. U.S. poultry imports into South Africa have declined over the past year due in part to the impact of the pandemic; however, beef imports have not been negatively impacted and have actually increased considerably over the same period. On July 11, the President declared an extension of the lockdown period with minor modifications for an additional 14 days.
