Wheat production in marketing year (MY) 2021/22 is projected at a record 20.8 million tons, 300,000 tons higher than USDA Official. As a result, wheat exports are also forecast to be the highest in history at 14.0 million tons (including wheat flour). Barley production in MY 2021/22 is forecast at 4.8 million tons, in line with USDA Official, however, exports are forecast at 3.2 million tons, 300,000 tons lower than USDA Official on higher projected domestic consumption. Corn production in MY 2021/22 is also forecast at a record of 51.5 million tons, slightly higher than USDA Official because of marginally larger acreage. Exports are forecast at 37.4 million tons, 1.4 million tons higher than USDA Official on higher production and beginning stocks. Sorghum production in MY 2021/22 is projected at 4.5 million tons, 350,000 tons higher than USDA Official and nearly the highest in a decade in response to strong Chinese demand. Grain production in Australia is set for a second consecutive big year of production after two years of drought. For the winter crops, wheat area is forecast to slightly increase in MY 2021/22 and barley area is expected to decrease a little. In the April to June planting and early growth period for wheat and barley, rainfall has overall been very good across the growing regions. The rainfall forecasts for July to September for all winter crop growing regions is very favorable with expectations for above average rainfall. If realized, this will set the crops up for well above average yields. For the summer crops, sorghum production in MY 2021/22 is forecast to rise slightly while rice is forecast for a large boost in production.
Mexico has updated its organic products law (LPO by its Spanish acronym) enforcement notification to the World Trade Organization (WTO) from the Committee on Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) Measures to the Committee on Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT). Trading partners and domestic/international stakeholders are encouraged to submit comments to Mexico on this notification within 60 days of June 28, 2021. U.S. exporters of organic products to Mexico are reminded bulk/raw material, as well as processed products, are subject to enforcement of the LPO and other applicable Mexican laws.
Export prices of all grades of rice decreased one percent due to a further weakening of the Thai baht against the U.S. dollar.
