You’re invited!

Join Foreign Policy, in partnership with the Atlas Network, to discuss the potential of local think tanks in promoting good governance and civil liberties in a polarized world.

Around the world, think tanks have been playing a growing role in governments and civil societies, often offering a bridge between research and policymaking, cultivating political discourse, and informing a range of stakeholders and decision makers. While public trust in institutions has been waning, the contributions of local think tanks to policy reform and innovation may be all the more important in the COVID recovery. But how effective are local think tanks in affecting policy agendas in the countries where they operate? What has been their contribution to the policy debate and public information around the pandemic? Looking ahead, how should they adapt to address the rising tide of political polarization, authoritarian leadership, and threats to economic and civil liberties?

Tune in as we convene an esteemed panel of experts and practitioners to explore the role of local think tanks in times of crisis, lessons learned in response to COVID-19, and how to constructively tackle global challenges. Our program also will unveil the findings of a FP Analytics' latest research examining the impact of democracy-building, free-market focused think tanks and their effectiveness in advancing locally-driven reform initiatives.
