Hello reader At last the weather is looking up - hooray! I think we all deserve a bit of respite. We only managed to get our potatoes planted yesterday and we're behind with pretty much everything allotment related. When I say we, I actually mean CT. I was busy writing up this week's post. Because the weather has been so awful, I resorted to baking. But not just any old baking. No indeed. I baked a batch of my favourite cinnamon swirls. You may know them as cinnamon scrolls, pastries or rolls. But the main difference between mine and most other recipes out there is that I make mine with a melt-in-the-mouth wholemeal pastry rather than shop bought puff. When you've found a brilliant pastry recipe, there isn't really much need for another. My ab fab yoghurt pastry just works every time. It's easy to handle and it performs beautifully, producing a lovely nutty, flaky, buttery pastry. Mostly I use it for savoury purposes, but for these cinnamon swirls, I add a little sugar and some cinnamon. It's then just a case of rolling it out, topping with a mix of cinnamon and brown sugar, rolling it up into a log shape and then cutting into slices. A drizzle of icing over the finished bakes is optional. Perfect for a chat over a cup of tea or coffee. Anyone remember what that was like? I also made a ginger version of my remarkable rhubarb cake. It really is my favourite rhubarb cake as it's so easy to make and tastes so good. I've added a few notes about the ginger addition in the post. It doesn't make the cake better, just different.
This week I've updated quite a few old posts. Sometimes they almost need a total rewrite and / or a recipe card. Sometimes it's just a case of brightening up the photos and creating a new pin. All of them need a bit of behind the scenes work done on them so that the great god Google might deign to show them to someone once in a while. Here are the ones I've been working on since the last newsletter: There may not be a newsletter next week as I'm heading off home to Cornwall to see my mum. It's been a long time. I have a lovely recipe planned though, so you might want to hop over to the blog next week and have a look anyway.
Please do let me know if you make any of my recipes and don't forget to star rate them. It really helps to make them more visible on search engines. Questions or feedback via comments on the blog posts are always appreciated.
Keep cooking and stay safe. Choclette x
