COVID-19 Insight report

May's coronavirus insight report

Our COVID-19 Insight reports highlight the coronavirus-related pressures faced by the services we regulate.

This month's insight report looks at the impact of the pandemic on access to dental services, and gives examples of good practice and collaboration across local services to deliver care for people with cancer, or suspected cancer.

We also update our regular data, including the number of deaths of people in care homes and of people detained under the Mental Health Act.

Supporting culturally appropriate care

It's always been vital that people giving care are sensitive to people's cultural identity or heritage.

The pandemic has made this even more important because it has been difficult for families and communities to come together.

Cultural identity or heritage can cover a range of things. For example, it might be based on ethnicity, nationality or religion. Or it might be to do with the person's sexuality or gender identity. Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people have a particular culture. So do Deaf people who use British Sign Language.

Our new web resource for adult social care providers explains why culturally appropriate care is important and highlights example of good practice. It aims to help providers to think about different ways culture can affect care.

CQC offices in Stratford, London

Our offices remain closed – please do not send post

All of our offices are closed and our staff are working from home. This means that we are not able to receive post. If you need to contact us, you should do it online or by phone.

If you work for a health or social care service, do not send completed notification forms, including notifications of deaths, to us by post. These should be emailed to HSCA_notifications@cqc.org.uk.

If we have to issue a formal notice, we will contact the provider by phone to discuss. Providers are also reminded of their duty of care to people using their services. For those detained under the Mental Health Act, this may mean supporting people to access the internet or make phone calls if they ask to contact us.
