Celebrating teaching on The One Show A massive congratulations the 14 Gold Award winners! We also sponsor two of the awards: Outstanding New Teacher and Lifetime Achievement - well done to Kirsty Gaythwaite from Goodwin Academy and Dr Paul Phillips from Weston College on their Awards. | Dealing with staff absences We know that schools are doing everything they can to deal with higher levels of staff absence than normal. However, we want to make sure that the guidance is clear and that you are aware of all of the options available to you. You can find full details in the workforce section of the full opening guidance on GOV.UK, but we've pulled out some of the key points in a helpful document that you can download and share. Get help with remote education We have worked with sector leaders to create a package of resources designed to support your remote education planning and delivery. You can access all of these resources from this dedicated page on GOV.UK and we've created a summary of the materials that you can download and share. More support for the new RSHE curriculum To help schools implement the new Relationships, Sex and Health Education curriculum from Sept 2020, we have created a page for teachers on GOV.UK, which brings together: - the statutory guidance which schools need in order to plan their RSHE curriculum
- non-statutory guidance, designed to provide teachers with further clarity and practical advice on teaching the new curriculum
- teacher training modules, which aim to help teachers identify the core knowledge pupils may be taught as part of RSHE, and to share this through peer training. These have been developed with subject matter experts and teachers. Since launching the page, we have recently updated new modules covering Healthy Eating, Physical Health & Fitness and Families.
Whilst RSHE subjects are now compulsory, DfE published a statement on GOV.UK in July to reassure schools that they have flexibility within the first year of compulsory teaching, while being clear that we expect schools to start teaching the new curriculum as soon as they are ready and at least by the summer term 2021. Get help identifying and supporting young carers The Children's Society and Carers Trust have created a resource to help school staff understand the challenges that young carers are experiencing during the COVID-19 outbreak and offer practical guidance on how to support young carers. Helpline for school staff to support children dealing with abuse Operation Encompass has set up a Teachers' Helpline to assist school staff supporting children who may be dealing with domestic abuse. Funded by the Home Office, the helpline will be available weekdays from 8am to 11am throughout term-time and will provide school staff with the opportunity for guidance, information and support from Educational Psychologists. For more information and resources, please visit the Operation Encompass website. We send out this Teacher Bulletin a few times per half term. It brings together some of the recent advice and information we've published. If you've received this Bulletin because a colleague has forwarded it to you and you'd like to get it directly, you can subscribe by following the link below. |
