Hi There,
One of my favorite ways to ring in the New Year is with lucky foods. Now, I'm not superstitious - at least not really. Rather, I like the way these traditions help to reconnect us with the past.
And one of my favorite dishes to make for New Year's Day is lentil stew served with a side of homemade sauerkraut. It's a way to reach back into my German-American ancestry (and it's also delicious).
- Lentils symbolize prosperity, and are eaten in both Germany and Italy on New Years.
- Pork symbolizes forward progress. In this stew, bacon gives a boost of good flavor that helps balance the earthy flavor of lentils.
- Sauerkraut symbolizes luck and good fortune. It's bright sour-salty flavor also helps bring balance to the humble, earthiness of lentils.
If you need a little luck (don't we all?), check out the recipes for Lentil Stew and Sauerkraut. ❤️

P.S. Today's the LAST for the big sale at the Herbal Academy. I started their herbal fermentation and natural perfumery courses. ❤️
