It sounds crazy, but it really takes me a good four years after having kids to feel like a normal human, get in a good routine and finding the time to make all the healthy habits work. I finally know this after three kids. Yes, in these four years there have been habits of healthy meals, workouts, self care and more - but what I’m saying is that it’s almost *impossible* for all of it to come together for me at once in those first few years. It’s just how the cookie crumbles! I feel like I finally have the time and mental space to enforce a lot of good-for-me wellness habits. And while life is still full, busy and hectic, it’s not “multiple newborn/toddlers hectic,” you know? For me, wellness encompasses how I feel physically, mentally and emotionally. Exercise and nourishing meals, mental health and stress, skin and hair care - everything that makes me feel good! Here’s a big giant list of what I use and love the most. Fitness TrackersOura Ring. This has been life changing for me! The sleep tracker is unreal and I love it. It has helped me sleep more/better/more efficiently. I don’t think I would have changed this habit without this stupid ring. I don’t love how it looks, but I LOVE the ring! Peloton App. We’ve had the bike since 2017 and the tread since 2021, but what I use most is the app! I track all my outdoor walks on the app so I can see the distance and I also use the app for strength, yoga/pilates, meditation, etc. I don’t use it exclusively and I really just keep track of stuff on it so I can see what I should do next. But it is my favorite of all workout apps. Mental HealthWalking. In 2024 I started walking almost everyday with one of my friends and it’s been life-changing for us. Not just the time together, but the early morning light, being outside, the mental clarity - everything. We usually walk for 1 to 1.5 hours in the morning. In the summer we do it at 6am (it’s light enough!), during school we do it right after school drop off, before work. Fresh air. Kind of goes hand in hand with the above, because I walk outside every single day if possible. We only stop if it’s below 10 degrees or storming. Reading/Kindle. Reading has always been my escape. It’s my favorite thing to do. Notebook/Brain dump. I love using journal prompts (you can google them, there are millions) or brain dumping when I feel overwhelmed. Menu planning. This is a non-negotiable with a family of 5. Sure there are weeks where I have NO desire to do it, but if I don’t, we’re in a scramble. It makes everything more stressful. Sun ProtectionCuyana La Toquillera. I’ve been talking about this hat for years and am thrilled they still have it. I have two of them so I always have one at all times. It’s so great outdoors because it’s wide enough to prevent a lot of sun exposure, but since your head is exposed, you don’t get super hot... Continue reading this post for free in the Substack app |
