Including images of dangerous defects at HGV and PSV annual test
DVSA's commitment to making digital improvements in HGV testing is taking another step forwards.
From 9 April 2026, Vehicle Standards Assessors (VSAs) will begin capturing photo evidence of dangerous defects discovered during the test.
How it will work
VSAs will take a photo of dangerous defects using the in-app camera within the Vehicle Testing App (VTA) which records every test.
The image(s) will be securely attached to a vehicle's test record on DVSA's internal Vehicle Testing Management platform (VTM).
Images will only be viewable to VSAs for the duration of the retest period.
What this means for you
By taking images of dangerous defects, we aim to reduce the response time on disputes and appeals, helping us to provide a more transparent and efficient service to you.
