In May 2025, the World Health Assembly adopted the WHO Pandemic Agreement to strengthen pandemic prevention, preparedness and response. It also established an open-ended IGWG to undertake several tasks, including drafting and negotiating an annex to the Agreement on the Pathogen Access and Benefit Sharing system (PABS) to enable safe, transparent and accountable access and benefit-sharing for PABS materials and sequence information. Monday, 01 December Launch of the WHO guideline on the use of GLP-1 therapies for the treatment of obesity in adults On 1 December, the World Health Organization (WHO) will release its first guideline on the use of Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1) therapies for treating obesity as a chronic, relapsing disease. The WHO guideline will be launched at the WHO global press conference at 14.30 CET/13.30 GMT on Monday, 1 December. Further information and registration: here. ********** World AIDS Day 2025 WHO joins partners and communities to mark World AIDS Day under the theme “Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response.” Amidst funding challenges for the AIDS response, WHO is calling for global solidarity and investment in innovations to protect and empower communities most at risk. Learn more about the WHO campaign. A high-level event, co-hosted by WHO, UNAIDS, and the Global Fund, will take place at 15.30 CET on Monday, 1 December and will be livestreamed. Speakers will include Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General, WHO; Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director, UNAIDS; and Peter Sands, Executive Director, the Global Fund. Thursday, 04 December Launch of the World Malaria Report 2025 WHO's World Malaria Report 2025 provides the latest global and regional estimates on malaria cases, deaths, intervention coverage and financing. This year’s report places special emphasis on the growing threat of antimalarial drug resistance -- now one of the most acute risks to malaria control efforts in Africa and beyond. A virtual press conference will take place under embargo at 15.00 CET/14.00 GMT on Tuesday, 02 December. Saturday, 06 December Launch of the UHC global monitoring report 2025 The Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Global Monitoring Report 2025, jointly developed by WHO and the World Bank (WB), will be officially launched on 6 December at the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) High-Level Forum hosted by the Government of Japan, the WB Group and WHO. The event, taking place on 5 and 6 December in Tokyo, Japan will also celebrate the official launch of the UHC Knowledge Hub.
