SEPTEMBER 2025 Celebrating Late Summer Late summer is a precious time of year and I can see and feel the transition happening before my eyes! Not yet autumn and no longer peak summer, late summer is something to be revered. Though I often feel a sense of sadness during this time of year, I cherish every drop of this powerful transition. My September newsletter features more about late summer including how to sync up with the season and make the most of your connection with the world around you; a recipe for a delicious Spicy Grilled Corn, Tomato and Peanut Salad; and as always, some of my life's most recent pleasures. May you find some juicy inspiration here, Sarah B
This transitional time between bright, expansive summer days and cool, contractive autumn, lies the sweet and slow late summer. The air temperatures are dropping, but the sun remains warm and friendly. The smells change from verdant to fully ripe, and the colours around us turn golden. The element associated with late summer is Earth. The Earth elements governs our stomach and spleen, which take nourishment from the Earth itself, break it down, and turn it into usable nutrition for the growing, changing, healing body. The way in which we nourish ourselves, and are able to give and receive love are very important to the Earth element. Keep it healthy and balanced by eating a building diet of protein-rich foods, supportive fats, and unprocessed ingredients, the way nature intended. Both organs reflect the influence of diet, lifestyle and emotions. In fact, the stomach may be one of the most sensitive organs in the body. The digestive system is deeply connected to the nervous system, so stress of any kind effects how quickly or slowly food passes through the GI tract, and how well it functions overall. Jittery nerves, anxiousness, or over excitement can cause food to move too quickly through the system, preventing food from being absorbed at the right rate. Food can also move too slowly, from resistance, uptightness, or anger, leading to constipation and over-absorbing water and toxins from the colon back into the body. We can support of stomach and spleen by chewing our food throughly, and eating in a calm and relaxed state. Take a few moments before eating to thank the Earth for the abundance, and your body for digesting and assimilating it.
Spicy Grilled Corn, Tomato and Peanut Salad | | This is a perfect, late summer dish - classics with a twist! Grilled corn and tomatoes are best buds, but combined with spicy-sweet sriracha, crunchy peanuts, and basil?! Hold the phone. I love to grill the corn, but if you don't have access to a grill, simply boil or steam it. Bonus points for finding garlic peanuts, but you can always substitute with dry roasted and salted. For peanut allergies, swap with pumpkin seeds. Thai basil would be delish here too! | | INGREDIENTS 1 lime 2 cloves garlic, finely minced 1 tsp. fine sea salt 2 Tbsp. white wine vinegar 1-2 Tbsp. sriracha, to taste ¼ cup / 60ml cold-pressed olive oil 1 small red onion 4 cobs of corn 1 pint cherry tomatoes Handful fresh basil ½ cup dry roasted, garlic peanuts or salted peanuts DIRECTIONS 1. Zest the lime into a jar. Slice the lime in two and squeeze one half into the jar. Whisk in finely minced garlic, a generous pinch of salt, vinegar, sriracha, and olive oil. Set aside.
2. Dice the onion, place in a small bowl and massage with a generous pinch of salt. Squeeze the other half of the lime over top, toss and let marinate while you prep the rest.
3. Grill the corn your preferred method (I like it shucked, brushed with a touch of ghee, grilled until tender). You can also boil / steam it. Let cool slightly and slice it off the cobs.
4. Wash and quarter the cherry tomatoes. Combine them with the corn and onion, then pour the dressing over top and fold well to combine.
5. Tear basil and fold through. Roughly chop peanuts and scatter over the top, and finish with freshly cracked black pepper. Say thank you and enjoy!

I've grown quite tired of going to the grocery store to buy cottage cheese and it's sold out! So I started making my own. It's incredibly easy and empowering, only takes a couple of basic ingredients, and it's nearly foolproof, I promise. I just taught it cooking class on my membership site Grow, and everyone came out with amazing results! If you'd like to see how I do it, and cook along with the community, click the link here to become a member and learn alongside us. Making cottage cheese from scratch allows you to control all aspects of the outcome, from the flavour, texture, salt and fat content, and flavourings. Plus, it's way more delicious than anything you can buy! I'm excited for you try. | | | | I got the Sunday bathing suit at the beginning of the summer and it quickly became my favourite! The fabric is so buttery soft, gives support and holds the body in all the right places, without feeling tight at all - kind of miraculous?! There are a ton of colours to choose from, and I love this deep teal hue. They even double as a body suit, since that fabric is so lush. I also got a two-piece (big deal for me) and have felt really confident in it. They have several cuts for varying degrees coverage on top and bottom, so you can mix and match. Next up, I am going to try their athletic apparel, which looks both cute and very functional. Designed in Canada and made ethically in California! | | | | I started following Roka just over a year ago, and have been absolutely charmed by the life she lives and shares online. Roka is a florist and craftsperson who lives full-time on her 40-ft. boat, named Leafy Lady. Along with her cat Billie, she cruises around with her floating allotment, and sells flowers at markets in England from her mobile flower-shop-bicycle that she built herself. She is a true inspiration, creative force, and expander for me. If you feel moved by folks living unconventionally, chasing their wildest dreams and making them a reality, I suggest giving her a follow! Fingers crossed I get an interview with her on Grow ;)
