When Maxwell and I launched Cubby as an email newsletter in 2020, we wanted to offer practical ideas, inspiration, and a sense of camaraderie for families stuck at home in a strange and straining pandemic year, when family spaces had to be schoolrooms, lunchrooms, and playgrounds.
While the pandemic is behind us and our kids have (happily!) returned to school, daycare, and other social spaces, I've looked at my home differently ever since. Raising children and living with them is a round-the-clock job for our homes as well as ourselves, and as my children have progressed from toddlerhood to (eep!) second grade and fourth grade, my house has had to change constantly to adjust to new routines, new hobbies, and new ways of helping them grow up while feeling cared for.
As my kids have grown, so has Cubby! Cambria Bold (the marvelous editor whose voice has infused the site for several years) and I now work alongside other brilliant editors, cooks, and home experts to ask: How can we live a little better, a little easier, when there are kids at home? How can we arrange our homes more smartly and comfortably to help get kids from place to place and from meal to meal?
So today we've relaunched Cubby's website with a bright, new design, brilliantly made over by our design and web teams — big shout-outs especially to Anna Snyder, Melissa Polhamus, Madeleine McMichael, Chanel Fetaz, and Henry Chen — and reorganized into new sections that will help you get to what you need faster. Cubby continues to be Apartment Therapy Media's site for all things about kids at home, from sofas that will outlast the toddler years to after-school snack ideas and first bike recommendations.
We're so grateful for all of you who have offered your own advice and good ideas over the years and we appreciate every one of you for reading. We have lots more to come this summer and fall — we can't wait to show it to you!
