It's 4th of July week ahead, and while we are all headed to the grill, up north in Michigan we are also headed to making our beloved whitefish dinner. Whitefish is a state and national treasure! I was interviewed recently about why this fish is so important, and I found myself saying that whitefish really is synonymous with Great Lakes food and Great Lakes living. We love it for our fishing industry, we love it for its history. Most of all, we love it because it's so delicious--so clean, fresh, light.
Planked Whitefish Dinner on Little Traverse Bay.
We don't do the traditional restaurant-style planked whitefish dinner at home, but it sure is gorgeous and so fun. Our recipe is far simpler and just as delicious. My bestie from college visited recently and recalled the delicious whitefish dinner my mother made when she and her family came up north years back. So we recreated it, and I thought I'd better share with you so you can enjoy this glory, too!
Here's the menu for our Michigan Whitefish dinner, complete with Michigan Tart Cherry Pie:
Have you stocked up on a few spices and EVOO for all of the produce that's on it's way?! Get some Garlic Mint Salt (for your green beans!) and a big tin of our Soul Roots Organic olive oil (I'm using it on everything lately) and you'll be summer-ready!
Bless your hands,
Smoked Whitefish Dip.
A Michigan favorite! I LOVE my recipe for this dip, with a balance of flakey smoked fish, onion, cream cheese, and more.
