Hi reader,
Last week, a student from my Flourish52 Program reached out with a question that I know so many of us wrestle with:
"Tammy, I eat a decent lunch... but by 3:00 p.m., I'm starving. Then I grab whatever sweet snack I can find and totally blow my day. Help!"
Girl, I get it.
That mid-afternoon crash is real. And if I don't plan ahead, I turn into what I lovingly call my "hot zone" self—hangry, impulsive, and eating whatever I can grab. Been there too many times.
So today, I'm sharing 3 simple tips that help me stay sane, full, and energized through that tricky 3:00 p.m. hour.
1️⃣ Don't skip meals earlier in the day
Start strong with breakfast, a mid-morning snack, and lunch. If you show up to 3 p.m. running on fumes, no wonder you're diving headfirst into the cookie jar.
2️⃣ Add protein + healthy fats to every meal
High-carb, low-protein meals can make your energy plummet. And when that happens? Watch out—here comes the hangry savage 🥴 Instead, make sure each meal keeps you feeling full and steady. Protein is your best friend here.
3️⃣ Prep high-protein snacks ahead of time
Having something ready before hunger hits is key. These snacks are my personal lifesavers:
🍫 Salted Dark Chocolate & Almond Energy Balls
🍌 Almond Butter + Banana Wraps
🥜 Peanut Butter Overnight Oats
🥓 Antipasto 'No Bread' Roll Ups
🦃 Greek 'No Bread' Turkey Roll Ups
No time to prep? No problem. Here are my go-to quick grab options:
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Apple slices + peanut butter
- Hummus + carrots
- Cheese sticks
- RX Bars
- Siggi's yogurt
- Cottage cheese
The goal isn't perfection—it's preparation. Even one of these can save your day from going off the rails.
