Algeria: Grain and Feed Annual

Post anticipates that Algeria's wheat and barley production will remain stable in the 2025/26 season. Post forecasts Algeria's wheat imports at above 9 million metric tons (MMT) in the current and next season. Russia remains the leading wheat supplier to Algeria, while Ukraine has emerged as another key source of grain with wheat export volumes from France diminishing sharply in the current marketing year. Post anticipates that demand from Algeria's poultry industry will continue to reinforce corn and soybean imports.

 

Brazil: Poultry and Products Semi-annual

Brazil is the second-largest chicken meat producer in the world after the United States and the largest chicken meat exporter in the world. Post forecasts chicken meat production will increase two percent in 2025 due to strong external demand, devalued Brazilian currency, socio-economic performance, production costs, and increased domestic consumption. Brazil continues to maintain its status as free from Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in commercial plants. This report considers current status quo for its estimates. Post estimates domestic consumption to increase one percent in 2025. Chicken meat exports are forecast to increase five percent in 2025, as Brazil opens new markets and consolidates and diversifies exports to existing markets. Brazil is diligently negotiating regionalization clauses to its current health certificates, with the objective of protecting its exports in case of HPAI or additional Newcastle Disease outbreaks.

 

Hong Kong: Latest Tourism Blueprint to Enhance Food and Beverage Experience for Hong Kong Visitors

As part of efforts to attract visitors to the region, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government released the "Development Blueprint for Hong Kong's Tourism Industry 2.0," a five-year plan to enhance competitiveness in the tourism industry. Comprised of four strategy pillars, the plan includes initiatives to promote food events, food retail, and restaurant and hotel food service. This report provides an overview of the plan and highlights key strategies that may impact demand for imported U.S. food and agricultural products.

 

Japan: Japan Gives Green Light to Genome Edited Potato

In October 2024, the Government of Japan (GOJ) added a genome edited potato to the list of genome edited products not subject to regulations for genetically engineered food and feed. This is the seventh genome edited product added to the list and the second product developed a by a non-Japanese company. The U.S. company, J.R. Simplot Company, developed the potato product using CRISPR-Cas9 technology to have a high tuber set.

 

Morocco: FAIRS Export Certificate Report Annual

This report provides information on export certificates that the Government of Morocco requires. The Moroccan food safety authority, "Office National de Sécurité Sanitaire des Produits Alimentaires" (ONSSA) is the national authority responsible for ensuring food safety and food regulations in the country.
