Democratic U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff from Georgia has introduced legislation aimed at giving Congress more control over the appointment of the U.S. postmaster general.

His Postmaster General Reform Act would require Senate confirmation for the role and impose a limit of two five-year terms, where no term limits currently exist.

This push comes after Georgia's mail delivery performance plummeted to below 40% in March 2024, following postal facility consolidations in Palmetto, but improved to over 80% later in the year.

This is about whether seniors are receiving their medication in the mail,” Ossoff stated. “High-quality postal service can’t be a luxury. It is a necessity.

Article Icon 1New Poll Gives Trump Slight Lead

An Atlanta Journal-Constitution poll shows former President Donald Trump leading Vice President Kamala Harris by 1.6 percentage points in Georgia, within the margin of error.

Trump has gained notable support from black voters, reaching 9.2%, up from 5.8% in July, and has also improved his standing among Hispanic voters and white men without a college degree.

Harris performs strongest among women, young voters, and college-educated white voters.

Trump's gains among black and Hispanic voters highlight a shift in his support base, while Harris remains a strong contender with key demographic groups.
