Welcome to the latest edition of ONR News, keeping you updated about our work as the UK's independent nuclear regulator for safety, security and safeguards. In this edition, you will read how we are soon launching our Stakeholder Survey. This helps us understand your views as we strive to shape our regulation and organisation for the better. If you are contacted by the independent research consultancy, Savanta ComRes, we'd be grateful if you can complete the survey, which is completely anonymous, to share your feedback. Elsewhere in this newsletter, you can hear about the latest developments at Hinkley Point C in Somerset as the next stages of the construction and installation take place. We reflect on the first year of operations for ONR's Safeguards team, who embarked on delivering a whole new regulatory function following our departure from the European Union. Like the whole of society, the nuclear industry continues to navigate through the ongoing challenges of COVID-19, and we remain satisfied with industry's response to the pandemic while also considering our own organisational response accordingly with the government's move away from Plan B measures. Policy and Communications Director |  We have now approved work to start on the bulk mechanical, electrical and heating (MEH) installation at new power station Hinkley Point C. In an important hold point for the project, the next stage of construction will bring a 4,000-strong taskforce working together at peak times to fit-out the nuclear site in Somerset. Following 12 months of the new regime, our team enabled the country to meet all its new international safeguards obligations after Britain's exit from the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM). They took steps to bolster performance in areas including improvements made to the training and supervision of staff who carry out electrical work. The questionnaires, sent to more than 1,350 recipients, are key to helping shape how we move forward as an independent regulator and deliver our mission. Find out more about the Stakeholder Survey | Siemens Healthcare Limited complies with Improvement Notice We can confirm that Siemens Healthcare Limited has now complied with an Improvement Notice served after the loss of a package of radiopharmaceuticals. The notice was served after the loss of the package while in transit between Siemens' Mount Vernon Hospital in London and London Bridge Hospital in September 2021. There was no harm to the public or the environment and the consignment was subsequently retrieved, and all materials accounted for. After the incident was reported to us an investigation was carried out into Siemens Healthcare Limited's handling of the loss of the package of radiopharmaceuticals. Since the notice was issued, Siemens Healthcare Limited has provided us with a suitable radiation risk assessment and implementation schedule and complied fully with the requirements of the Improvement Notice. It's top of the class for Ash  One of our graduates has won plaudits for achieving the highest overall mark in his master's degree course. Ashley Oshinowo, who joined ONR as part of the nuclear graduate scheme in late 2021 after completing his master's at Manchester University, was awarded the prestigious Nuclear Technology Education Consortium (NTEC) academic prize for his MSc Nuclear Science and Technology degree. The 24-year-old, who is currently on placement in our Sellafield, Decommissioning, Fuel and Waste division and will collect his award at a Nuclear Institute event later this year, said: "I was thrilled to hear the news, although it still hasn't quite sunk in yet! I'm thoroughly enjoying this placement, shadowing colleagues on regulatory issues, which has been excellent for my development." Paul Dicks, ONR's Deputy Chief Inspector, said: "I would like to congratulate Ashley as it's a terrific achievement and something he should be extremely proud of. We look forward to continuing to support and progress his career in ONR." * ONR has been a sponsor of the nuclear graduates programme since 2014.
