Mississippi COVID-19 Update December 21-27, 2021 COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations are rising rapidly in the state as the Omicron variant spreads. Masks should be worn indoors in public places to reduce the risk of transmission. As always, be tested if you feel sick, talk to a doctor about appropriate treatment and remain at home if you test positive. Holiday gatherings and indoor activities can be major contributors of COVID-19 transmission. Please keep these gatherings few and small. Vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent severe illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19. Everyone aged 5 and older should be fully vaccinated, and those 18 and over should receive a booster at the appropriate time. Vaccinations More than 1,443,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Vaccination benefits you even if you have already had COVID-19. Most COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are now among unvaccinated Mississippians. Find a Vaccination or Booster All Mississippians aged 5 or older are now eligible for vaccination at hundreds of convenient locations statewide. Vaccinations and boosters are free to all Mississippians. It's the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change. Deaths by Date of Occurrence What You Can Do Be vaccinated, or get a booster. Vaccination is the most powerful step you can take to resume normal community life and stop unnecessary deaths.
