Reminder – upcoming GB active substance expiry date

Biocidal products must be phased off the GB market

The active substance/product type combination listed below is due to expire under the GB BPR on the following date:

  • Aluminium phosphide releasing phosphine (CAS 20859-73-8 EC 244-088-0) in product type 18
    31 January 2022

Once the approval expires, the active substance can no longer be used in biocidal products of the relevant product type in Great Britain.

If you hold an affected GB BPR product authorisation or Control of Pesticides Regulations (COPR) product approval, we will contact you about cancelling or revoking your authorisation or approval. You will have an opportunity to submit comments or additional information and we will take account of these when finalising our decision.

If you are aware of any disproportionate negative effects that are likely to arise from the expiry of any of the active substance/product type combinations listed above, please contact us.

GB active substance expiry dates postponed

Active substance expiry dates postponed whilst the renewal evaluation is completed in GB

For reasons beyond the control of the applicants, the approvals of the active substance/product type combinations listed below were likely to expire before a decision could be taken on their renewal under the GB BPR.

To allow sufficient time for the renewal evaluation to be completed, a decision has been taken to postpone the expiry of the approvals until the following dates:

  • Creosote (CAS 8001-58-9 EC 232-287-5) in product type 8
    24 July 2023

  • Magnesium phosphide releasing phosphine (Trimagnesium diphosphide) (CAS 12057-74-8 EC 235-023-7) in product type 18
    31 January 2025

  • Dinotefuran (CAS 165252-70-0 EC n/a) in product type 18
    31 May 2025

  • Reaction mass of methyl (S)-and methyl(R)-7-chloro-2.3,4a,5-tetrahydro-2-[methoxycarbonyl-(4-trifluoromethoxyphenyl)carbamoyl]indeno[1,2-e][1.3,4]oxadiazine-4a-carboxylate (75:25) (Indoxacarb) (CAS n/a EC n/a) in product type 18
    30 June 2025

  • Tetrahydro-3,5-dimethyl-1,3,5-thiadiazine-2-thione (Dazomet) (CAS 533-74-4 EC 208-576-7) in product type 8
    31 July 2025

  • N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) (CAS 134-62-3 EC 205-149-7) in product type 19
    31 July 2025

  • 1-(4-chlorophenyl)-4,4-dimethyl-3-(1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)pentan-3-ol (Tebuconazole) (CAS 107534-96-3 EC 403-640-2) in product type 8
    30 September 2025

  • Spinosad as a mixture of 50-95 % spinosyn A and 5-50 % spinosyn D (Spinosad) (CAS 168316-95-8 EC 434-300-1) in product type 18
    31 October 2025

If you want to supply new biocidal products containing these active substances, you can still apply for GB BPR product authorisation.

New products (including new trade names) must not be supplied in Great Britain (GB) until product authorisation is granted.

HSE will provide separate updates on the renewal decisions when relevant.
