Small Business Pulse Survey Updates: Phase 7

Based on responses collected November 15 through November 21, the Small Business Pulse Survey estimates that:

  • 16.6% of U.S. Transportation & Warehousing small businesses have improved methods of logistics, delivery, or distribution compared to what was normal before 3/13/20

Comparing now to what was normal before March 13, 2020, has this business done any of the following?
  • 27.1% of U.S. Manufacturing small businesses improved methods of producing goods or services compared to what was normal before 3/13/2020. The national average was 10.9%

  • 55.1% of U.S. Educational Services small businesses have adopted or expanded their use of digital technologies compared to what was normal before 3/13/2020. The national average for this statistic was 26.4%

  • 9.6% of U.S. Retail Trade small businesses experienced a decrease in the number of paid employees. The national average for this statistic was 10.8%

  • 34.3% of U.S. small businesses experienced a large increase in prices they pay for goods & services compared to what was normal before 3/13/20. For responses collected 10/11/21-10/17/21, this was 30.8%

Comparing now to what was normal before March 13, 2020, how have the prices this business pays for goods and services changed?
  • 7.1% of U.S. small businesses experienced a large increase in demand compared to what was normal before 3/13/20. For responses collected 10/11/21-10/17/21, this statistic was 6.2%
  • 31.5% of U.S. small businesses report having available cash on hand for 3 or more months of business operations. For responses collected 1/4/21-1/10/21, this was 23.4%
How would you describe the current availability of cash on hand for this business, including any financial assistance or loans?
  • 22.4% of U.S. small businesses reported a decrease in revenues. For responses collected 11/09/20-11/15/20, this was 33.4%

In the last week, did this business have a change in operating revenues/sales/receipts, not including any financial assistance or loans?
  • 12.8% of U.S. small businesses required employees to have proof of COVID-19 vaccination before physically coming to work. For responses collected 10/11-10/17, this was 11.9%
