TOPIC: Limited Batches of Scent Free Hand Sanitizer by artnaturals: Recall - Due to Presence of Impurities AUDIENCE: Consumer, Patient, Health Professional ISSUE: artnaturals is recalling 10 lots of artnaturals 8 oz Scent Free Hand Sanitizer. FDA testing identified the 8 oz bottles of Scent Free Hand Sanitizer contained several impurities including unacceptable levels of benzene, acetaldehyde, and acetal. Benzene may cause certain types of cancer in humans. Animal studies show acetaldehyde may cause cancer in humans and may cause serious illness or death. Acetal can irritate the upper respiratory tract, eyes, and skin. While the exact risk from using hand sanitizer containing benzene, acetaldehyde, or acetal is unknown, FDA recommends consumers do not use products with unacceptable levels of benzene, acetaldehyde, or acetal.
