November 2021

What could I possibly talk about this month other than Thanksgiving foods? Although it might be hard to see most of the fatty, traditional Thanksgiving sides as sexy, did you know that several of the foods associated with this holiday have aphrodisiac properties, including the turkey and cranberries?

But I'm not talking about either of those today. Nope, this month's featured aphrodisiac is pumpkin.

Pumpkin?!?!

You've probably heard that pumpkin pie spice is associated with sexual arousal, thanks to a study by Dr. Alan Hirsch. But pumpkin itself, as in the fruit? Yes, it, too has aphrodisiac properties.

Pumpkin, which is considered both a squash and a gourd, has been used nutritionally by many cultures to treat, among other things, low libido. But this squash also has symbolic uses as an aphrodisiac. In Hopi culture, pumpkin flower is a symbol of fertility.

Nutritionally, pumpkin has more than a few benefits when it comes to keeping you in your sexual prime. It is a great source of beta carotene and alpha carotene, which the body converts to vitamin A. (Did you know that vitamin A is essential for testosterone production?) The squash is also a good source of vitamins E and C, potassium, magnesium and fiber, all of which are essential to maintaining sexual health.

But when it comes to your sex life, the most beneficial piece of the pumpkin is not the flesh but what's hiding inside. Pumpkin seeds make a fine source of zinc and are sometimes even recommended as a part of the diet for men suffering from erectile dysfunction.

Now that you have a new way of looking at pumpkin soup, ravioli and pie, let's talk about the rest of the Thanksgiving meal. Did you know we have recipes on EatSomethingSexy.com for every part of a holiday feast from cocktails to sides to sweets? And my argument against Thanksgiving wine pairing is a must-read!

So start clicking and get planning for your feast of thanks.
