Mississippi COVID-19 Update August 24 - 30, 2021 Vaccinations MSDH vaccination and testing sites in central and south Mississippi are closed Tuesday, August 31. More information More than 1,162,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Vaccination is effective at preventing COVID-19 illness, and especially hospitalization and death. Vaccination benefits you even if you have already had COVID-19. Most COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths are now among unvaccinated Mississippians.   Find a Vaccination All Mississippians aged 12 or older are now eligible for vaccination at hundreds of convenient locations statewide. Vaccinations are free to all Mississippians. Find a pharmacy or clinic near you offering vaccinations Find a free vaccination at an MSDH vaccination site. Schedule an appointment ahead of time, or drop by and make one in person. Same-day appointments are usually available. NOTE: This total is impacted by reduced staffing related to Hurricane Ida. New K-12 student cases for this reporting week: 5,763 New teacher/staff cases for this reporting week: 945 New COVID-19 school reports are published on the MSDH website by Wednesday each week. (Note: This week's report may be delayed to give schools affected by Hurricane Ida more time to report their data.) View COVID-19 school reports Hospitalizations Hospital beds continue to be in critically short supply for COVID-19 patients and others: Patients currently hospitalized for confirmed COVID-19: 1,533 Patients currently in intensive care for confirmed COVID-19: 459 COVID-19 Hospitalizations by Date State Trend Cases by Date of Illness This chart tracks COVID-19 cases according to the date the person first became ill, rather than the date of test results. It's the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change. Deaths by Date of Occurrence What You Can Do Be vaccinated.
