Mississippi COVID-19 Update May 28, 2021 NEW SCHEDULE Our COVID-19 newsletter is becoming a weekly update, with each edition appearing on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week, containing a summary of COVID-19 developments and progress. Expect the next edition on Wednesday, June 2. Drop in, or make an appointment. Schedule and locations More than 893,000 people have now been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in Mississippi. Homebound persons can get help with COVID-19 vaccination by sending e-mail to COVIDHomebound@msdh.ms.gov All Mississippians aged 12 or older are now eligible for vaccination. Find a free walk-in or drive-through vaccination at an MSDH vaccination site. Drop in, or make an appointment ahead of time. Find a pharmacy or clinic near you offering vaccinations Host a vaccination event for your business or organization by writing to VaccineEvent@msdh.ms.gov More about vaccination providers and vaccination appointments Follow daily vaccination progress: Mississippi COVID-19 Vaccination Report   Reported Today New cases of COVID-19: 131 New COVID-19 related deaths: 6 Positive test results reported to MSDH as of 3 p.m. yesterday. Tests may have been made on previous days, and represent individuals who became ill a week ago or more. Repeated tests for the same individual are counted only once. COVID-19 related deaths reported to MSDH from hospitals, medical examiners and coroners as of 3 p.m. yesterday. 2 of these deaths occurred between May 26 and May 27. 4 of these deaths occurred between November 10, 2020 and May 23, 2021 identified through death certificates. Long-Term Care Facilities Active outbreaks: 19 An outbreak is considered any confirmed COVID-19 case among LTC facility residents or employees. Total COVID-19 cases: 317,407 Total COVID-19 related deaths: 7,310 Cases by Date of Illness This chart tracks COVID-19 cases according to the date the person first became ill, rather than the date of test results. It's the standard way of following the course of a disease in a population. The black average line helps identify upward or downward trending. (In the few cases where date of illness has not yet been determined, testing date is used.) Since we are still receiving reports of illnesses that began up to two weeks ago, expect the more recent dates on this chart to change. Deaths by Date of Occurrence What You Can Do Be vaccinated. Vaccination is the most powerful step you can take to resume normal community life and stop unnecessary deaths. Be tested for COVID-19 if you have symptoms or believe you may have been exposed.
