| Supreme Court Backs Ohio Woman The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously ruled Thursday to make it easier to pursue "reverse discrimination" lawsuits, siding with Marlean Ames, a Summit County woman who claimed she was denied a promotion and later demoted because she is heterosexual. Ames, an employee of the Ohio Department of Youth Services for more than 20 years, brought her case under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, alleging that a lesbian colleague was promoted instead of her and a gay man filled her position after her demotion. The court rejected the higher legal standard that some lower courts had required for majority group plaintiffs, overturning precedent in 20 states and Washington, D.C. The full opinion is available here. The ruling sends Ames' case back to the lower courts, where it may proceed to trial or settlement. | Procter & Gamble to Cut 7,000 Jobs Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble announced plans to cut 7,000 non-manufacturing jobs over the next two years, citing economic and political uncertainty. The company said it will expand roles, reduce team sizes, and increase automation. P&G will also review its brand portfolio—including brands like Tide, Febreze, and Pampers—with some products expected to be discontinued. The announcement followed a 2.7% decline in U.S. consumer sentiment in May and a Congressional Budget Office report predicting that tariffs will drive up inflation and decrease household purchasing power. | Ohio House Minority Leader to Step Down Ohio House Minority Leader Allison Russo, D-Upper Arlington, announced she will step down from her leadership role at the end of June. She will continue to serve as a state representative through 2026. Elected in 2018, Russo has led House Democrats since 2022. She said her decision was driven by family priorities, including her son's recent high school graduation and the desire to ensure a smooth transition before the summer recess. Term-limited in 2026, Russo has not commented on her future political plans. | |
